If the money goes into transfers and is multiplied by around 5x by the fact that new signings are amortalised over several years under FFP, we'd be silly not to let him go for £60m+

It would mean we can sign a striker, Arambat, Parard and another.

Hope this isn't true. Don't see how we replace him with anybody close to his quality, especially at this point of the window.

Can see people's point about cashing in if possible, but we're so much worse without him and the replacements that were suggested when we thought Maguire was going are nowhere near as good as him IMO.

Plus City got about 20 million for Laporte, so can't see a huge transfer fee being involved.

Don't know who Nawaf Oga is though, so not too worried yet.

I can see the rational for selling varane in order to get, say, amrabat and pavard. we have adequate cover at cb and urgent needs elsewhere.

what I cannot understand* is how we got ourselves into a position where we would need to consider this trade off. varane is a class player.
