No.

Don't mind him being there as cover for emergencies, but the signing of a quality centre back who doesn't shit himself was hugely important and remains so.

For all the good we have done pre season if we don't sign a first choice centre back it will be criminal.

LvG has an obsession with left footers playing LCB, im £#%&!ed if I know what footed the guys we are linked with are

atm I have no preference over Rojo or Blind in that position.

Darmian-Smalling-Rojo-Shaw

That's a good backline imo. Questions over distribution from the back but it would be nice to have a settled defence who are able to work in tandem, for once.

Surprised we're not back in for Laporte. But there is no point in replacing inexperience with inexperience. Big season for Smalling

having a leftie there naturally widens the pitch making it more difficult to close down - in particular a right footer will often be controlling a sideways pass towards an attacker on a shuttle run.

it naturally changes the angles of passes to and from there, too.

never really thought about it before but he's right isn't he, especially the faster the game gets when you're trying to keep the ball...

£#%&! knows why professionals can't play with both feet.

It could work, he's very disciplined and intelligent, and his distribution from the back would be miles better than anything Smalling or Jones could produce. However, he is not the quickest, either directly or turning, and we would have to be prepared for some inevitable mistakes while he learns the nuances of a new position. As we know, that can cost important points.

Not United quality in a million £#%&!ing years. We don't even have to look outside our own stadium to know what our standard should be. Vidic, Ferdinand, Stam; these are the players we had and should aspire to replace quality for quality, because we now know what you need to win European cups. Smalling has some attributes, but he also has a number of deficiencies, and shouldn't be anywhere near our back line at this stage because he's just not good enough. Should have been Cleverley'd or Welbeck'd by now.

We're rolling in cash but messing about trying to put squares in round holes.

I don't understand.

It's a conundrum for sure. Although I think sometimes people are too quick too look for solutions to problems externally, when the answer is actually right under your nose.

Is that the same Kane that couldn't get past Jones?

Blind has more intelligence in a strain of hair than Jones has in his entire brain

this was always likely to happen with rojo unable to play in any of the preseason matches. jones, unsurprisingly was the only one of the back four who failed to get a mention. lvg hinting that he is starting to worry about spanish dave's state of mind too (he was awful last night).

i do like blind as a utility player but left back is undoubtedly his best position. he's not physically strong enough as a cb. ironically, it's probably against the lesser teams that he'll struggle, the ones with pacy battering ram forwards. less worried about him against teams that try to play a passing game against us as he reads the game exceptionally well. hopefully rojo will manage to top the 20 appearances he made for us last season. or even better still, we sign an experienced worldy central defender

Why? Forgetting the defensive aspect for a second, his distribution from the back is exponentially better than anything we have seen in ages- that ball to Mata- and that's something that's vital to a VG system. But more to the point, do you really doubt for a second that he has more intelligence in his little finger than all the three stooges combined? Part of what makes a player versatile is the ability to learn the nuances of different positions, different roles. That's why they are prized so highly by managers despite supporters thinking of them as journeymen.

Is Blind a top quality cb now? No. Could he become one in fairly short time? Absolutely. The others have had their chances, and they are shit. If we can't get the players we want from outside, what's the alternative? We can't be spending 25m on someone we don't really want. Once you get down to 3rd and 4th choices you really should be contemplating other solutions.
