Pure will be gutted that he missed the opportunity to start this thread. He was RIPing someone who wasn't even dead last week.

Could have played for us for half a season too after the Munich air disaster, but the FA vetoed it.

As Maradona said, Di Stefano did what Pele didn't, traveled within South America and Europe and replicated his quality everywhere.

Possibly the best ever. If only he'd played in a World Cup.

Bobby Charlton believes Di Stefano is the greatest player to have played the game. Speaking in 2011, Charlton said: "Alfredo Di Stefano was the best player I ever saw, the most intelligent person I ever saw on a football field. That Real Madrid team, I wouldn't say anybody is better than them." - See more at: http://www.independent.ie/sport/socc....YGlARznl.dpuf

tbf, the Brazilian Government didn't let him

"He takes the ball from the goalkeeper; he tells the full-backs what to do; wherever he is on the field he is in position to take the ball; you can see his influence on everything that is happening... I had never seen such a complete footballer. It was as though he had set up his own command centre at the heart of the game. He was as strong as he was subtle. The combination of qualities was mesmerising." - Sir Bobby Charlton
