John 'Motty' Motson down

Remembering that time I asked Ronni Ancona to show me her Motson and, after agreeing, she put on a sheepskin coat, lifted a mic and bored me senseless for half an hour talking about football.

Born in Salford yet his last name was an anagram of Moston, makes you think

He loved the game, always full of enthusiasm no matter what game he was commentating on.

I always got the impression he had a big soft spot for, United, particuly if his commentry, when United beat Liverpool in 77 & Everton in 85, were anything to go by & he seemed to get just as much pleasure from , Norman Whiteside's Goals in those big cup ties as we did
