Football Milan unveil plans for new stadium

Moving from the San Siro as like City's it is owned by the city council

New stadium will only have a 48 thousand capacity
I know Juve built their new stadium that size but they've always stuggled to get fans into their ground
If Milan had a top team on the pitch surely they could get 60 or 70 thousand most weeks

Isn't the San Siro mainly empty these days?

Yep but they're current side is truly rancid

In a more modern stadium with a good side on the pitch they should be able to get 60 or 70 thousand most weeks

Just building a 48 thousand capacity stadium seems pretty short sighted

Wasn't it mainly empty when they were good though? Made a move to Milan on new star soccer recently and I barely recognized some
Of the team names, same in Germany.

The prem actually might be the best league in the world but only
Because all the other leagues are truly shit.

1990 59.054
1989 72.309

Yes but back in the early 90's, which appears to be out reference point for all footballing matters, it was in Italian.

Milan have always celebrated their English roots hence being called Milan not Milano. IMO any writing in seats is £#%&!ing tacky.

Inter were actually established as a direct counterpoint to Milan hence being called Internazionale.

Real shame they're moving. The San Siro is one of the great football grounds. Glad I've been.

Agreed. It doesn't get any better than playing Milan in a European Cup game at San Siro imo. Seen us take a few beatings over there, so being in the ground when we hammered them 2-3 was a really special night. The noise after Dinho put them in front was One of the best games I've ever attended.

Saw the Derby d'Italia years ago too. The fireworks and banners before KO were insane.

Never seen United there, but went to the actual game where that mega run of going unbeaten for nearly two years came to an end in the early 90s. They lost 0-1 to Parma (Asprilla free kick). Disappointed that none of the Dutch trio played (there'd been talk of Van Basten trying to make a comeback) ..so had to make do with Baresi, Maldini, Savicevic and the incredibly underated Donandoni.

The family who'd got us the tickets were actual Inter fans so when we arrived back in Milan they all celebrated, hugged us and told us we should come over for all their matches!

58 league games unbeaten iirc. Ridiculous really, given the quality of Serie A at the time. Congratulations on ending it

We were sat right behind the dugout. Could hear Capello berating the players.. looked like he was going to have a heart attack.. he mouthed off at Baresi (and Donadoni) who had a right go back at him. Capello then spent the final 15 minutes or so slouched back down on the end of the bench, facing away from everybody, with his arms crossed and sulking.
