I think with all big deals these days they are structured over 3 or 4 years. As long as the club know the money will definitely be coming in on a certain date then they can budget for it with debt payments etc.

Talk this week that ETH wants to streamline the squad. Probably looking at him for his versatility. Get players he knows, develop that tight-knit spirit, get a couple who can play multiple positions and then flesh the squad out in the next few windows.

ETH is apparently very adaptable too. What he says for Martinez for Ajax, might not apply for Martinez here.

Doesn’t Timber also play multiple positions?

Yeah he had a buy out clause of ‘over £40m’ so they offered over £40m

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play left centre back as part of a back three.

I could also be talking %@#$&!s as I've never actually seen him or Ajax play regularly.

Bit unsure about this signing as we don’t know what role ETH has in mind for him

I find it hard to believe it’s as a CB unless we’re going to play a back 3 as surely Maguire and Varane will be first choice to begin with given their status, salary and transfer fee paid for them

If it’s as a central midfielder to balance off against De Jong then it makes more sense but ETH has said before that he doesn’t see him as a midfielder and has seldom played him there for Ajax so it’s hard to believe he’ll start playing him consistently in midfield at Utd

I thought we’d be targeting the big gaps in our first 11 but the only wide right player we’ve really been linked with is Anthony but that doesn’t look like it will happen especially if we sign Martinez
