Seems so much better with Bailly next to him. They're like a very shit version of Rio and Vidic in how they cover each other's weaknesses.

Could work.
Spot on!! Maguire has been consistently very good for a significant period now. One or two £#%&! up's aside; which happens to the very best. The partnership with Bailly has a good balance to it and if we can keep the latter fit (a big if) it will make a massive difference to our chances of lifting the big one.

The next step is going from very good to great; which will only ever come with winning the big pots consistently. History tells us that; even with our very best partnerships in years gone by. For now most of us must feel feel more confident with that back 4. Shaw has been excellent in recent weeks too.

I suspect they will still look for another potential world class centre half in the summer. Add another top level centre half to Maguire, Bailly and Tuanzebe and we would be really strong in that area.

Bring on the skip rats!!

Thought he was good today despite all the other defenders having better individual performances than him. Our defence now looks genuinely solid, great foundation for the title push

The abuse he got on here and elsewhere has often been totally OTT, nqat. I'm sure his price tag has something to do with that.

I think he was his standard self today from the last few weeks, which is testament to his form.

Lindelof deserves a lot of credit just slotting straight back in there like that. Whole back line really stepped up. Shame our attacking players couldn’t.

played well today but he's painfully slow on the turn, couple times towards the end he got isolated and i was worried.

but as long as he has a strong partner he will look good. and Bailly and Lindelof batting for that place his form will only get better

Why even compare him in a "poundshop" sense, then?

I think how good Maguire has been for us has been wildly overlooked by a lot of fans. Clearly the price tag pays a part but it’s no surprise the team has started to come together since he’s been here and been captain. Still a few years off his prime and is going to keep getting better, plays every game, organises the defence, dominant in the air, good on the ball, and overall a very good defender. Head and shoulders better than anyone we’ve had since Vidic and Rio and I think there’s a very good chance he’ll be viewed in a similar light to both of those come the end of his career.
