Macheda reminds me of a young defoe....His movement, pace and a great finish from anywhere around the box.

How many youth team strikers had the physicality and skill of Welbeck since 1996?

If you can't see that the current crop are better than their predecessors on the whole you need to get your sonar checked. It's only the last 2/3 seasons that we are getting players that have been involved with the academy from the start of their career (9 iirc). Any new system takes time to bear fruit () and it appears that is what it is doing, throw some fancy foreign fruit in too and it makes for a bumper harvest. Summat like that tbh harvest.

The Youth system has been revamped and the remit for players being brought in has changed, with players being brought in from all over the globe. I am looking forward to these players progressing and getting their chances. We have seen examples of what these players can do; James and King, fleetingly, at Preston, both18/19, Cleverley at Watford and hopefully now at Wigan, Welbeck at Sunderland starting to show his worth. Obertan (still 20/21) at United is showing glimpses, and so on, and so forth. There are more to come through who are even younger.

I don't get this desire to knock and deride United's attempts to uphold the clubs traditions by bringing as many players through as they can.

Good player these days tbf. Was always going to be a bit light and 1 footed to succeed at United. Eagles is another who would've done well had he been a bit more athletic.

Safe to say we have had a lot of 'nearly' players in the last decade, the consensus seems to be that the current lot are a cut above previous years, probably as a result of us looking for more athletic players.
