Dwight Yorke - our style is 'c**p'

Mourinho's United aren't as easy on the eye as Guardiola's City and that doesn't sit well with a former Reds striker.

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has criticised the team's style of play under Jose Mourinho , describing it as "c**p" and claiming the club would have won the Premier League this season if Pep Guardiola had been in charge.

As it is United currently sit second in the Premier League table, 16 points behind Guardiola's title-winning City and with this month's FA Cup final against Chelsea representing the club's only chance of finishing the campaign with some silverware.


Yorke, who is still associated with United and earlier this year spent time coaching the club's reserve side, told UAE radio station Dubai Eye 103.8FM: "I think they [United] would definitely win the league [under Guardiola] because they [City] are on the front foot, playing attacking football.

"Look at the other side and the blue half of Manchester. Don’t tell me those players are far superior to the players we have.

"You look at Anthony Martial, (Marcus) Rashford, (Jesse) Lingard, you look at (Alexis) Sanchez, (Romelu) Lukaku. We have got a very, very strong attacking line-up.

"The difference is they [City] have a manager who thinks positive and wants to play attacking football. On the red side, we have a manager who wants to win 1-0 and play defensive. That is simply the difference."

Treble-season top-scorer Yorke reckons Mourinho's pragmatic approach inhibits United's attackers and he wants to see the Reds' boss loosen the shackles.

"If you are on the front foot playing attacking football and you want to score goals, that is what people want to pay money to watch," Yorke, 46, added.

"I remember when we were playing Liverpool away from home and we recorded one shot in the whole match. That’s not Man United. You want people to go out and express themselves.

"You are hoping one of your big talents produces a magic moment that will go out and win you the game. United are waiting for that one moment and secure a 1-0 advantage. That is not the way we play. It’s a load of c**p, in my opinion."
