Defendants are sentenced globally for all offences with the most serious taking precedence. The assault being the most serious it takes it well above the level of a fine.

If he was charged with common assault (which I presume he was) then the maximum sentence is 26 weeks less a statutory third off for early guilty plea. It seems they’ve let him off a little lightly by a couple of weeks. He’ll only do half of the sentence. The ten year banning order is the maximum allowed by law.
The level of the fine is shite tho, innit? The £350 include £100 for Grealish & costs.

10 yrs being the max is stupid too. If he’d have stabbed him up, he still would have only been banned for 10 yrs?

There was no fine. The offence was too serious to be dealt with by a fine. It was deemed so serious only custody was appropriate. Can’t really argue with that. See the above sentencing hierarchy. The money he is ordered to pay is a contribution to court costs, a levy known as a victim surcharge, and compensation to the victim.

Yes. Were the words “Maximum allowed by law” not clear enough for you?
