He gave us plenty of calls that were really borderline, ronaldo had lost control of the ball as he ran into the box, a pk would have been harsh and he went well over the 4 mins of extra time.

We had our chances, tons of free kicks on the edge of the box - the ref had £#%&! all to do with the result. had we put a couple of free kicks in and won do you think fergie would be ranting like that? bollox the man has no £#%&!ing grace.

How about just accepting that the luck wasn't with us, thats all the game went down to. Well, that and non existent defending for their goal.

when a referee fails to punish professional fouls with yellow cards, as laid down in the rules of the game, then he is not doing his job

when Atkinson chose not to book the Portsmouth player for body-checking Ronaldo into touch in the opening moments of the game he made a clear and deliberate decision to allow Portsmouth to commit the same and similar professional fouls throughout the match.

this deliberate ignoring of the rules manifested itself most obviously in the failure to penalise a clear professional foul against Ronaldo in the penalty area. that aside, of course, it also enabled the repeated transgressions of the away team to go unchecked for the duration of the match

to say he wasn't a bad referee is therefore an opinion based on willful ignorance, at best, since anyone who knows anything about the rules of football would surely be aware that professional fouls are punishable by mandatory cautions. these mandatory cautions naturally inhibit further such transgressions

can't be arsed to synthesise that but, cutting to the chase, you are a shit wum and/or a silly @#%&!. fact.

It's amazing how many referees are shit when we play, Clattenburg, Bennett and Atkinson today. Are their actually any decent refs?

That would be fine, except for the fact that he did produce yellow cards and did constantly call them up for any fouls committed.

Dont be so £#%&!ing soft, refs are not perfect, they call it as they see it and there was nothing so bad out there that we could definitively point the finger at the ref and say he cost us the match. sour grapes big time on here. Luck wasnt with us, thats all.

Because it isn't true. Unless you want the referee making the correct decision or not to be put down to luck.

You have a point with that @#%&! actually.

The ref wasn't that bad and wasn't to blame for us losing. I felt we should have been awarded a penalty, but aside from that he wasn't too bad.

Some on here (Throb and Jem spring to mind) moan about the referee after every single game. That's just madness and it makes you look silly for not being able to look at things objectively.

We were desperately unlucky today and deserved to win the game. The referee could have made a difference with the award of a penalty, but we didn't get it and that's football. The fouls on Ronaldo which should perhaps have been punished with more yellow cards would not have changed the outcome of the game. Ferguson is desperately looking for someone to blame when he should just be cursing his/our bad luck today.
