Question How much would you want United to go up to for Bale ?

..assuming Ronaldo never happens ? - £30m absolute max for me. Hugely overrated and I reckon he's already plateaued.

Nowhere near the money he's been touted for (£80m/£90m FFS!)

£40m max for me, good player though.

I'd throw in Young too.

This. If I wanted to support a business i would support tesco. United should spend whatever it takes to get Bale AND Ronnie.

With his stock as high as it is, £30M may well be a pipe dream.

Much as I'd like to see Ronaldo back, Bale is, as Ginners said, the far better investment.

£60m sounds huge now but in 10 years time it'll look peanuts if he's helped us win a few PL's and a CL.

£15m for Shearer in 1996 was ludicrous money on the face of it even though he was the best striker around, he looked a bargain a couple of years after.

£30m

Not a £#%&!ing chance, he's going to cost minimum £55m-£60m

Bale is a good player but he's easily stopped. I don't see him getting better from what he is right now. Will be funny to see him fail in la liga, bloody la liga where even the likes of Manucho carved out a career. He isn't worth a penny over £40m in this inflated market.

Madrid paying £75m for Bale is almost as big of a disgrace as that £65m on the past it Kaka 4 years ago.

As much as whatever is cheaper than Ronnie. No way Ronnie would come and spill blood for us

It's too much of a risk with Bale imo. I am not too convinced about him. He is too dependent on team built around him and his pace. One long term injury and we will be £#%&!ed.

Berbatov and Modric looked world-class at Spurs, ffs.

People putting the chimp-faced diver in the same bracket as Ronaldo is lunacy.

Ronaldo is one of the greatest players of all time. Bale is a decent player who had a good few months last season. £70m+ for him?

Welbeck’s regularly touted as someone who’s nailed on to be a world class striker ffs, but Bale’s not “proven” himself, despite absolutely smashing the League in the last couple of seasons playing at bloody Spurs

Actually, Ginners makes a good point.. but that's not really what he's saying, or indeed, I hope he's not saying.

Thread off to a bad start. If we were concerned about the money we should've done more about it 8 years ago..

..however, being "budget aware" means you're being realistic. If we shell out £50m plus on Bale, the likelihood is that we'll have chuff all else to spend.

People always try to be contrary over Bale
Him and van Persie have without a shadow of a doubt been the best 2 players in the league over the last 2 seasons.

He'd be a stand out even for us. Different class.

Don't care what wed have to pay but reckon when he does go it will be 40-45 as hell probably indicate he's ready to leave when the time does come.

Anything over £40m for him will be ridiculous.
