Thumbs down 2018 World Cup cities/stadiums

Some bizarre choices imo:

Quote:
Sunderland - Stadium of Light

London - Wembley

Birmingham - Villa Park

Manchester - City of Manchester Stadium

Nottingham - New Nottingham Forest Stadium

London - Emirates Stadium

Leeds - Elland Road

Sheffield - Hillsborough

Newcastle/Gateshead - St James' Park

Bristol - New Ashton Vale Stadium

London - New White Hart Lane Stadium or Olympic Stadium

Plymouth - Home Park

Manchester - Old Trafford

Liverpool - Anfield or New Anfield

Milton Keynes - Stadium:MK
Plymouth is in the middle of nowhere ffs. Milton Keynes hosting a World Cup game? Fair enough they have a nice stadium but jesus wept. They could've used the Ricoh Arena or even the Walkers stadium which is in a similar geographical location.

Do they whittle it down to 12 later? If so, any odds on Home Park not making the cut?

Yep, because it'd be the first time a world cup would have geographic spread & include reasonably small sized cities. Doomed I tell you.

Yeah, New Ashton Gate (or something).

Still, it's in Bristol which is the worst city in England. FACT. (Bar Merseydive).

Well, yeah, there is. If they (and MK) can provide a stadium fit for a world cup then there's no reason they shouldn't be on the preliminary list. Certainly more organised than Portsmouth, who royally £#%&!ed its bid up.

They don't have any money and will probably be out of business by then. Southampton should've had a cheeky bid. Or they probably did and got snubbed.

i find this more outrageous than plymouth or bristol tbh. think of all the well-meaning humble japanese fans - the worst they'll get in the west country is a few funny looks, at least they won't feel the cold press of a knife blade against the back of their neck while some scrote screams "COME 'EAD LA, GIRRUZ ALL YER FUCHN' MUNNY!"

Southampton never bidded. Neither did Coventry, both could well have made the preliminary list but that's academic now. Think Leicester did bid, bit surprised it didn't make it.

And say what you want about Milton Keynes, but there's already been the determination to get a stadium there in the first place & there's little doubt it'd get completed (probably be a white elephant afterwards, but that's another matter). Plus there's about a third of the country's population in the South East, and it's also where transport funding always goes, so it's make sense to at least have a third venue there (can't see them using all three London grounds)

FIFA are keen on the WC having a legacy in the host country, so the porspect of region like the south west getting shiny new stadium and providing a lasting facility for a backward region, so Plymouth might appeal to the FIFA egos. But failing that, bung them a few quid and they'll host the thing anywhere.
