The Scholes volley against Villa is the most ridiculous hit I've ever seen, and if you don't agree, you can £#%&! off.

very difficult to choose, but RVP, over the shoulder, while running, and trying to stay onside

Scholes at Villa for me but the RVP volley is outstanding.

Any of them could be the best, Rooney against Newcastle should get some love to. Had to go with Cantona though, the control is like something out of the Matrix and the volley is sweet as a nut.

Excellent thread Bellers.

Agree with the RVP comments but I’m going with Scholes v Bradford purely because Jaffo Jr and I used to try and recreate it in the local park when he was little (and make a total balls of it every time obvs)

I thought Beckham had messed up his corner and Scholes had somehow improvised a lucky volley.

But no, they actually planned it.

The most audacious set piece I've seen on a football pitch. And if it's not such a big deal, why don't teams try it every week? Free goals!!

The Villa volley, Tyler actually screams 'Hooooow??'.

Rooney's was the cleanest hit. RVP the most difficult. Scholes v Bradford the craziest and best.

Thread needs the title looking at imo. Other than that a superb idea.

Can't look past Scholes vs Villa for pure technique. Flawless

Yeah.... so, most of those are not volleys.

If the ball bounces, it's just a hit. You hit it on the volley before it bounces, it counts.

Scholes vs Villa by a country mile either way.

Rooney's v Newcastle.

It's ridiculous to hit a ball with that much anger and catch it so perfectly. Absurd talent.

@Patty_b

An overhead kick is a volley...

See the logic however and will let it slide.

Great idea Bellers.

I thought this. Luckily I checked before posting and embarrassing myself

According to wiki, if it's in the air it's a volley.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volley_(football)

I think you are getting into the subtleties of half volley vs full volley.

Scholes vs Bardford for me. The sheer audacity of knowing he could hit the target at that range, direct from a corner, on the volley.

Think of it like headers and volleys - if it bounces, it's not a volley. Same applies as 'setting yourself up' so Eric's vs Arsenal would defintely not count (in headers and volleys anyway).

Same applies to this one:

Mark Hughes scissor kick in the 5-1. Settled many a playground squabble. We had the best goal so it was actually a draw.
