They might have a £7m voucher for Pompey, but that's still actual cash. An outlay. Some might start to refer to it as Net Spend. Especially if you're a rotund Spanish turd in the service sector.

£17m for an admittedly good right back... the world is going mad.

basically liverpool have a £7m voucher to spend at portsmouth. so they spend another £7m with the £4 being add ons) and they have a english young rb who will get better and be their rb for a good few years.
especially if glen johnson makes the england rb position his own for the world cup and games leading up to it.

also gives them some attacking quality down the right just like rafael does for us.

not a shrewd bit of business but certainly not a bad bit.

whatever way you dance around it they have still paid £17m for a rightback who is very average defensively

i honestly cant believe we are laughing at teams for paying over the odds for 'average' players.

last player we bought for over £17m who has been good value for money.

i think you would have to go as far back as rooney.

Really seen his arse there with the keane post. Even I wouldn't have a 'mare like that.

baron - most of our transfers recently have been about potential - anderson, nani, the da silvas, the serbian lads. we sign relatively few big name players who are already at or near their peak. berbatov, maybe hargreaves and carrick is about all, i suppose.

yup, benitez was playing him everywhere but his correct position. not unrealistic to say if he had played in his correct position they could have been a lot closer to winning the league.

aside from Hargreaves, the only major signing United have made of 17m or above in the last decade who wasn't value for money in the big scheme of things was of course Veron. which is interesting, because he was a £#%&!ing amazing footballer and I loved watching him play - missed a fair bit of games just watching him. in that sense he was certainly value for the price of my ticket.

and Hargreaves hopefully still has plenty of time to prove his value - he's already been a major player in us winning the League and European Cup double as it is.

bit curious why you set the parameter of value for money at 17m or above though? you say you're an accountant, is that right?

I love the way no gambler ever says: "I'm a shit gambler".

My brother always tells me how much he's won - which seems like its frequent - but he doesn't tell you how much he has lost.

I assume you are the same.
