Recently watched a vid of a load of McClair's goals, he looks like a lower-division player -- dreadful touch and most of his shots look scuffed. Plus I always though he was substandard when moved back to midfield (although a useful squad player)

Hughes' goals are still amazing however

is there anything to forgive? sure he was a tit when he managed the divs but what he did in a United shirt. fine by me.

Not sure I need to add anything to a conversation about whether Hughes was a better forward than McClair tbh.

My favorite player.

But did he really say he wanted Chelsea to win against us in the champions league final? Seem to remember a story he said that as a TV pundit.

Original scorer of great goals, have to put the fact he's a miserable @#%&! in the context of being Welsh. Too many favourite goals to choose, adored this one as a kid

I think Jimmy would probably be better than Alan with the maths.

McClair (when he first came) was a great scorer of goals. Hughes was a scorer of great goals.

Loved McClair. His first season was the first one I went to every match home and away. Fell for his goalscoring instantly. He wasn't the player Hughes was though.

Choccy was hugely underrated, Hughes was incredible. We were great then. No controversy

2.9 vs 3.7

Though probably a little unfair to McClair given he became somewhat of a utility player and played quite a lot in midfield in the PL era.

our kid coached some of citeh's youth teams when hughes was gaffer and kidd was there. both were still staunch reds, kiddo particularly. Kidd said to our kid "us reds stick together" on one of his first days :TSR:

Loved Hughes as a player. Was class when i was first going to United.

Think the beef is entirely one sided. Hope he gets over it soon. I loved him - not only was he a scorer of great goals but a very intelligent footballer too
