Would that not defeat the purpose of his standoff? Briefing to journos that he’s no problem moving would weaken his stance significantly, no?

As mentioned many times, I am sure the club have spoken to the player...
I think you give the club far too much credit.

Not really imo. Just don’t leave the club without your money. If Barca have to get rid of him this is going to be a huge problem for them if he’s still there in September.

You, and nobody else here, will have a single clue as to the true intricacies of the situation.

However, for conjecture's sake, there are possibly 2 reasons in our favour as to why De Jong is publicly appearing to avoid a move:

1. If he's seen to be wanting away, it could be classed as a breach of contract, and void the deferred payments he's owed by Barcelona.

2. Barcelona are a club that look to tar players as mercenaries in order to save face, and De Jong could be attempting to counter this by refusing to admit he's interested in leaving.

Barca restructured his contract, with his agreement, so the wages ‘deferred’ were included back end as pay rises. He agreed. If he then leaves and the pay rises aren’t due as he’s not in that year of the contract, the club don’t owe him. That will be Barca’s pov. They have stitched him up. They should be offering to settle his contract to go, but are offering a pittance. He either accepts it or digs in and stays until the payrises activate to get his money. Barca are hoping he won’t do that. Brinkmanship. This will go until the last day, whoever blinks first stands to lose a few quid.

Why would de Jong or his agent tell a journalist he wants to join united, when he’s in a dispute over wages? All the noise has to be about staying.

Doesn’t mean he will join united, but none of the noise means anything under these dynamics.

I give ten hag credit. Even his comment the other day about not signing an alternative could be aimed at Barca. Effectively saying, no panic, prepared to wait all window and into next summer. Last thing Barca would want to hear.

Possible. But not the most probable, given ten hag has been pursuing de Jong this long, and no other club has bothered doing a deal yet.

I'm ok with the club waiting as long as they've got a cut-off point and a back-up plan.
