Dad came bounding into the kitchen.

"Put GMR on, I think we've signed Cantona!"

Weird isn't it. I will NEVER forget seeing that on teletext. 'United Sign Cantona' I was convinced it must be his brother, who was being talked about at the time.

Must of read it 20 times.

Coach of our football side came in that day and said he didn't care, he was shit anyway.

I remember it vividly. That baking hot July morning. I miss the 80s.

You've gotta love Howard Wilkinson, Trevor Francis and Lee Chapman.

Abso-bloody-lutely

The feeling of well being when he was on the pitch... 1-0 down with ten minutes to go.. no worries, Eric will sort it out.

Ģ#%&!ing love the bloke..
By some distance my favourite ever United player and up there with Iggy as my biggest man-crush!!

On a serious note, the fact that he called it a day when he left us... no drawn out exit ...no offering his services to a rival, only bolsters his legacy.

By my reckoning, he was younger than RVP whn he called it a day. :shakehead:

I was at Selhurst Park on the big night - lived in London at the time. I was home in time for the 10 o clock news. Couldnīt believe it when the incident was the lead story on The Beeb.

Lotīs of journos calling for his head for days after that - I really believed he would get a life ban.
