Yeah, it's some record of achievements he's had. For me, it’s not just that he’s carried these teams, but with regard to the last two, he’s overcome incredible obstacles to do so.
I remember when he first went to Brazil, not only were the players, media and fans over there generally quite unwelcoming, even the referees were picking on him. The fact that he, an Argentine, ended up Player of the Season, the league's top goalscorer, club captain and darling of the notoriously volatile Corinthians fans says it all. Then, he pitches up at West Ham, a move he really should never have been made to take. I'm sure he knew he'd only be there one year and it would have been very easy for him to show little effort or consideration for the club's cause. But again, same story: Hammer of the Year, loved by the fans and, as you say, almost single-handedly kept the club in the league. Just imagine what he'll do at a club when all the odds aren't stacked against him. |
