The Premierships strongest are the strongest collection of 4. No danger.

but its worst teams are probably the worst. Surely serie A and La Liga arent as poor from 12 down say...

I enjoy it. If some @#%&! at Sky or in the English press wants to go overboard and brand it as the best in the world then that's their problem.

Ain't nothing but a thang.

The thread asked if this league is the best in the world. It is. We may have weaker sides but its more entertaining.

Technically La Liga is better, but the Prem is just as strong all-round imo. Some of the defending by teams in the lower-half of the division in Spain is laughable.

Yeah, how can our crap teams possibly compare with the likes of Almeria, Sporting, Numancia, Recreativo etc

£#%&! me, do the ecophobes on here really think we have a monopoly on unattractive opposition?

Still both correct, though. The second point may depend on your viewpoint, but I enjoy the faster, slightly more gung-ho approach over here. As for overall quality, because of the way the TV deals work here compared to Spain average Premiership sides can pay better wages than average Spanish ones, so the average quality is higher. And that's without taking into account the rich owners that are symptomatic of English clubs being private companies instead of societies.

I agree the Premiership is the most entertaining in terms of football played. It is far from the most entertaining in terms of drama, though, imho. One team winning 3 titles in a row is great for us United fans, but doesn't constitute great drama, especially when you consider only 4 teams have any chance at all of winning the league.

This is of course true in many other leagues, though this year we've seen Wolfsburg win the Bundesliga, AZ win the Dutch league, and Bordeaux win Ligue 1 (previously the most predictable league in the world). The equivalent to any of this in the Premiership would be someone like West Ham or Fulham winning the league. None of us will live long enough to see that.

that's not quite true, though. wolfsburg have volkswagon backing them, making their success more like city coming up to challenge - hoffenheim are similar. bordeaux have some pedigree and have been in the top four for several years so it's hardly coming from nowhere. the only real surprise is az, but they have (had) van gaal and have won in a season where the usual suspects have spectacularly self-destructed for one reason or another.

But City haven't challenged. And Bordeaux may have had some top 4 finishes, but those were almost meaningless because of the Lyon hegemony. It doesn't matter really, the point is that nobody outside the top 4 in the Prem is capable of winning the league, whereas in other leagues, there can still be surprises. I know nobody cares about South America, but Argentina continues to be the best example of this, with L@&%! or Velez on their way to the title this season, despite not having a fraction of the resources of River, Boca, San Lorenzo, or Estudiantes.

YES

its because of a mix of shite teams and brilliant teams and where anything can happen in a game when the shite could have a good day and beat a big club.

Must admit was thinking the same meself at the weekeng

Wigan, Burnley, Pompey, Blackburn, Bolton, Wolves, Birmingham

Reckon there's 42 points there already next year.

As much as I hate the scum from #@&%! Road I used to look forward to those games a lot more than I will for any of the above.

United got 90pts rarely rousing themselves for more than 20 minutes at a time.

technically the league is as good as anywhere. but tactically most of our teams haven't got a £#%&!ing clue. that's the difference imo. take Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea, Vermin, Villa and Spurs out of it, and United dropped only 5pts in 26 matches - and 3 of those were with 10 men (falling to 9) at Fulham, who finished 7th.

it probably is the best league right now, but too many teams are caught up in the hype. the football is hi-octane but lacks composure. you see players leave here and move to Spain and suddenly their technique is allowed to flourish because they have more time to play and do the right things.
