I think Fellaini will bring the best out of Carrick because it will allow him to focus on his primary tasks rather than the additional ones he finds placed upon him with the presence of Cleverley/Anderson

I don't think you can be so assured in saying it's a 442, if it is some kind of 442 then it's very very very fluid (so much so it's a different formation as i see it).
Maybe it will be more of a 442 with Fellaini if that's what you're anticipating, but it certainly hasn't been (for me) in the recent past.
