Default Motd 11.11.23

Bit of a challenge this. Having to make your own mind up about what is happening, instead of being fed a narrative.

Armistice Day MoTD. Where are the poppies? Disgraceful.

I missed it. What was the deal? No commentary? No analysis?

Are you lot aware that the highlights are available every Saturday at 5.15pm anyway?

It was shit. Stop trying to be edgy or miserable. MOTD is great. Hopefully back to normal soon.

Wait... some of you waited up to watch short highlights with no punditry on terrestrial TV at half ten at night, when short highlights for each game with no punditry are available on demand on YouTube within half an hour of the game finishing??

Ffs

Probably not a coincidence that it seems to be the same people that think Lineker should just capitulate and be gagged by Tories.

I was thinking about this yesterday and I realized I haven’t watched MOTD since about 2003ish. It was great prior to that because 90% of the time you’d been at the game and you watched it to see what you might have missed but most importantly if you could see yourself in the crowd.

Saying that I was surprised recently that you’ve been framed is still a thing.

Never watch motd

Also, as often as not, turn sound off whoever I tune into, anyway as most are irritating/biased. Give it 5/10 mins usually

Have done for years. Often turn sound on/rewind if necessary but mainly avoid the stats sheet/3x ex dippers/tyler/

Same as print media; this shit became irrelevant decades ago.

They always came across as smug #@&%!s and Lineker has never liked us. I watch YouTube for the goals these days and there are plenty of decent fan channels where they aren't pulling in big money.

They have overestimated their importance.

They haven’t really thought have they, as you can see from the reaction.

MOTD is important. Can’t say I watch it myself, but I’m tired of football generally these days unless it involves United.

For a lot of people without access to YouTube, or sky sports subscriptions etc, MOTD is the only way they get to watch Premier League football. But cringey, but it is an institution. I don’t think the analysis is particularly good, and they certainly are smug at times. But there is something nice about watching it after we’ve played well, and seeing them all purring over us.

You can bet the likes of Sky and BT would like nothing better than for MOTD to disappear. Would just be another step in the monetisation of football in the country.
