It was also an era where clubs did not have the luxury of dumping big money signings after a year. Had to give them the opportunity to succeed, or fail.

Anyone else think that he is too bulky? Not fat, but heavily muscled, can make him sluggish over the first few steps and back on his heels when the ball comes against sharper players. His movement in not great either, give him space to run into and he is very dangerous but tends to be too static otherwise.

I think he has tried to make up for technical flaws in his game by beefing up a lot but he has no idea how to utilise his frame to effect games. You can't play to feet and be confident he will keep the ball. You can't launch it up because CBs beat him to it most of the time.

Nothing we couldn't tell at Everton.

He shows glimpses, does some good stuff at times did well at Burnley for the goal and and at a
Arsenal for one of the goals.

The problem is when he is not on it he is poor. As someone has said he looks far too bulky. My main issue is when things aren't going his way he has he attributes to still cause defenders problems and win the ball in the air etc but he doesn't win one ball when he's not on it. The other night he didn't win one challenge but to be fair they were all dire. Martial was poor for me too.

Hat trick today for the big man...

There’s not really many good strikers around at the moment.

Morata, Lukaku and Lacazette all went for £50-£75m over the summer and they’ve all been turd.

The striker Arsenal signed from Dortmund will probably be the best of the lot (based on nothing, I’ve never seen him play)

Lukaku's a capable striker, but I don't think he suits our style. He's not the Drogba type that I think Jose was hoping he'd turn out to be.
Are you suggesting mourinho wasn’t familiar with Lukaku’s game?

not world class but still a good player for us. it's just that when he has off days like he did against city and spurs, those performances seem to stand out more than his good ones.
