That's the Arsenal effect for you. The fleet street media is infested with Arsenal fans so anything they do is blown out of all proportion.

You'd honestly think that English football was like Hackney Marshes on a sunday morning until Wenger came along and civilised it. "he told us to eat pasta and stop drinking 14 pints after training" Well christ on a bike, Martin Keown! Why hadn't anyone else thought of this before? He must be some sort of genius.

That ‘invincibles’ team is the most overrated on the PL era.

A team’s greatness determined by a side stat. Teams have won more games and got more points than their season. They lost 4 games on all comps - one more than our treble team. Their title defence was pathetic and they were nowhere in Europe.

They weren’t even the best Arsenal team of the PL era IMO. That 98 side was better.

Great teams don’t win 1 title and nothing else.

Fergie should have been the first name in the first round.

Agreed. Unsure why Wenger is getting so much hate tbh. Arsenal were a fantastic team and there was always a real sense of occasion whenever we played them back then. If we hadn’t been around they’d have likely won more. I used to absolutely love/hate playing them.

This.

Who the £#%&! had the job of deciding the first inductee and didn't pick the manager who's won it more than any other, along with all the other shit he won at the same time

Because his achievements, good though they were, are blown out of all proportion. Didn't win the league after the defence he inherited retired, his teams were petulant and had no backbone.

So he inherited Lehman, Cole, Campbell, Toure and Lauren?

What on Earth are you talking about?

Wenger was a very good manager, his teams played some really lovely stuff at times. That Arsenal team from 2002-2005 really did play great football mostly, no denying it.

He also did very well to keep Arsenal competitive in his latter years whilst they sold their best players every year to pay for that stadium, finishing top 4 every season.

But it has to be said the Arsenal sides he built, particularly when Adams, Bould, Winterburn, Dixon and Wright were gone, were always a bunch of preening whingers who could dish it out but couldn't take it.

He also benefitted hugely from walking into a squad that contained Denis Bergkamp, Ian Wright and arguably the best back 5 in the country, even though they were all getting on a bit. He got a great base to build from with them but you have to hold your hands up and say that Anelka, Petit, Vieira and Overmars were inspired signings.

All in all he was a very good manager but he's far from the revolutionary figure that journos in this country want to paint him as.
