Hopefully he will only need a two year deal for that

Great to see Dave commiting his future to the club. He won't be going anywhere.

Basically that like many of our other great sides. this one needs a spine.

De Gea
Jones
A N Other
Rooney

is what pure sees as our Schmeichel, Bruce, Keane, Hughes etc.

Barcelona are signing Ter Stegen. And if not him, someone else. They're admirers of Big Dave, but aren't looking to sign him anytime soon. He might end up there when he's 30-32.

Hasn't Stegen signed a pre-contract with Barca?

Dave is superb, but he really needs a settled central defence ahead of him.

Hopefully Jones becomes a regular, but I think we need an experienced signing to come in the summer when Vidic leaves.

Fergie's best sides were built on the triangle of goalkeeper/centre-back/centre-back, with Schmeichel/Bruce/Pallister, Schmeichel/Stam/Johnson and the strongest of the lot which was Edwin/Rio/Vidic.

Our current side has nowhere near that quality of foundation. De Gea has established himself as number 1, but the centre-back partnership is a complete mess. Moyes will get it right though; the best thing about his Everton sides was the defensive stability, and Martinez has benefited from that with the Howard/Distin/Jagielka unit that Moyes built.

Agreed with the last part. But I don't think Evans is good enough, therefore we really need a top name CB to play all the games for us. Jones or Smalling can be the other in the pairing - won't be that tough as either get injured a lot.
