I've just been looking at a site which lists all the transfers in the Premier League
Newcastles transfer policy from 97 onwards is £#%&!ing atrocious
It started in 97 by selling at the time two of their best players in Ferdinand and Ginola...they brought in this lot. Carl Serrant £500,000 Garry Brady Free Stephen Glass £650,000 Lionel Perez Free Stephane Guivarc'h £3,500,000 George Georgiadis £420,000 James Coppinger £250,000 Paul Robinson £250,000 Nikos Dabizas £2,000,000 Gary Speed £5,500,000 Andy Griffin £1,500,000 Andreas Andersson £3,000,000 Paul Dalglish Free Ian Rush Free John Barnes Free Paddy Kelly Signed Bjarni Gudjonsson £500,000 Brian Pinas Free Stuart Pearce Free Alessandro Pistone £4,300,000 Quite a few relics in there, as well as utter utter shite. 98 slightly improved, they got a better quality of player in. Unfortunately, that player was Duncan Ferguson who spent most of his career injured (Although they did bring in Solano) Silvio Maric £3,300,000 Didier Domi £4,000,000 Duncan Ferguson £7,000,000 Nolberto Solano £2,480,000 Dietmar Hamann £5,250,000 Laurent Charvet £520,000 99 brought some players who barely kicked a ball (from what i remember) Daniel Cordone £500,000 Christian Bassedas £3,500,000 Diego Gavilan £2,000,000 Kevin Gallacher £500,000 Fumaca John Karelse £800,000 Jonny Brain Signed Kieron Dyer £6,500,000 Franck Dumas £500,000 Elena Marcelino £5,800,000 Alain Goma £4,700,000 The turn of the millenium saw them splash the cash on that future England centre forward and one of the most dangerous prospects in world football, Carl Cort. Andy O'Brien £2,000,000 Wayne Quinn £800,000 Clarence Acuna £1,000,000 Pedro Dimas Free Lomano LuaLua £2,250,000 Olivier Bernard Free Carl Cort £7,000,000 2001, wasn't too bad a year, except for the major flop of Viana...who i believe was young european of the year before joining the club well known for its nuturing of young talent... Hugo Viana £8,500,000 Jermaine Jenas £5,000,000 Laurent Robert £9,500,000 Robbie Elliott Free Craig Bellamy £6,000,000 2002, saw them sign the future bedrock of their defence. They hoped it would be Woodgate, unfortunately, he turned out to be an utter crock, so they had to suffice with Bramble instead. Darren Ambrose £1,000,000 Tony Caig Free Jonathan Woodgate £9,000,000 Titus Bramble £5,000,000 You get the drift...there are some £#%&!ing shockers on that list. http://www.transferleague.co.uk/ |

I was just having a look through some of the past transfers, it's no wonder the Geordies fell well off the pace after challenging for a few seasons. They are just shocking buys. Thank £#%&! Fergie only had one terrible summer since the premiershp started, and we still got Ronaldo... |

Look at the spending on the site.
We've bought the league tho http://www.transferleague.co.uk/ Since Benitez took over they've spent £60 million more than us. |

The usual excuse for their lack of a title since the PL started is that we always outspend them and they cant compete. |
