Coals, but a couple of bags of self lighting is fine. Tried being a pretentious twat last year and experimented with formations and apple juice and it's an absolute ballache. Recall Baron managed to produce some magnificent meats though.

Always coal.......if you're using gas why don't you just do it inside, pathetic.

Sometimes use flavoured woodchip but essentially a half barrel arrangement with different height shelves... Skillet as required .

A BBQ should be simple.

Build a pyramid with kindling wood, couple of unravelled tampons, flint and steel to light, then put on coal on top of pyramid as it falls apart. No matches, no fire lighters, no liquid fuel.

Got this, does the job:

This, but make sure the tampons are used - ideally from a fairly hefty 30-something singleton.

Will give a really unique edge to your cooked meats, particularly beef.

i've learned through my own mistakes...

a simple kettle bbq with coals is more than enough.

I'm not an alabama bbq pit master and all that f***ing talk of wood smoking or gas infernos is just over the top.
