You asked how old they were without stipulating some event: when they broke into the first team? When they started scoring goals regularly? When they struggled?

You can't just say 'how old was x?' ffs

'Hey, how old was your dad?'

'He's 80.'

'Yeah, but how old WAS he?'

Spock is having a nightmare on this thread

He is comparing him to Ronaldo which is unfair but after his first 4 seasons you would never have thought that Ronaldo would be able to score the amount of goals he has since then.
Ronaldo wasn't a natural finisher but he worked on his game and look at him now

Is Welbeck a clinical finisher yet. No
Could he become a 20 to 30 goal a season finisher. Yes

If he puts it all together and smooths out the rough edges in his game then he could become a great player for Utd and England. There is no guarantee he will but if you can't see he has the talent then have a look at some of the great goals he has scored so far in his career.

The phrase 'natural finisher' is an odd one. Some players have it from when they're kids. Some players simply learn how to do it well and sort of become natural finishers. Ronaldo, Rooney, Van Persie, Torres are not natural goalscorers in the sense that Michael Owen has heen hitting 1 in 2 since he was ten, but all of them can smash, 20...30...40 goals and finish with consumate ease because theyre just brilliant footballers.

Where was Van Persie at 21? Just signing for Arsenal and looking average? Drogba? Cole? Torie? Shearer? You can learn how to finish. It can come with hard work and maturity.

Not at 21, no. No end product and all that. He's simply improved and worked at that aspectof the game to become a good finisher.

That's not what we were saying. You laughed at someone for suggesting Ronaldo was not a natural finisher at 21. Are you saying you think Ronaldo was a good finisher at 21?

So Welbeck isn't as good at the same age as one of the greatest players of this generation.

Better than welbeck is yes, and 21 is hardly young for a footballer ffs. I am not saying he is totally crap and he may well improve but he needs to do it quickly

That's not what I asked. I asked you if you think Ronaldo was a good finisher at 21....with the qider point being that you can improve. Welbeck will be hitting 20 plus goals soon enough. 21 is young in terms of being a complete player. It's merely an aspect of welbeck's game that jeeds improving.

21 isn't young if we're talking about someone perhaps on the cusp of breaking through, but in the last 18 months, welbeck has established himself as an important member of a strike force for united and England. That's impressive for 21. Tbh, I don't know much more and how much further you expect him to be in terms of his development. This is his second full season. We're talking about a lad who plays regularly for United and is still five years away from his peak. Imo, he's been one of the best aspects of our squad in the last year or so. We harp on about giving kids a chance and when we do, and they do well, we end up wondering why they're not Rooney or Ronaldo. Whoa, tough crowd.
