This, surely, is giving the apparently jaded young Caesar of coaching not a centavo more than his due. However, it is still necessary, rather than niggardly, to say that some of the eulogies that came yesterday when he announced his need for a year-long sabbatical flew so far over the top they were in danger of collecting snow up in the sierra.

Erm.

Hitzfeld only had 6 years at Bayern so rebuilding was a one off after the '99 disappointment to return & win it.

Ancelotti at Milan ? He left an aging pile of shit for the next man after 8 years & only won one league - admittedly 2 CL's is going to shine in any light you shed on it but he had almost all the same key players as when he arrived.

Not sure if I am missing anyone else but it's a rarity when you look to compare Fergie to anyone.
we get it you love him...ffs

Have to say I agree

It's all very well saying 'things go stale' but I don't recall Fergie ever saying that. Truly great managers rebuild, they don't just £#%&! off.
that's why he is so totally and utterly respected by his peers.

Rubbish. Capello, Sacchi, Herrera, Guttmann, Rocco and Clough. That's six of the best coaches in football history, none of whom "rebuilt" a side after making it successful. You never hear any of them criticized of this. It's incredibly rare for a coach or manager to be in place long enough at a big club to do such a rebuilding job.

A year off for Big Pep, should be revitalised and ready for a new job next summer. United should offer him the managers job from 2013/14 onwards now ffs

you don't rebuild a side, you constantly develop it. pep's brought in alves, affelay, mascherano, maxwell, keita, villa, ibra, sanchez, fabregas and more, sold yaya toure, eto'o, ibra and others. he'd certainly have had input into the decision to buy alba. and he's also bought and sold some hilariously shit duds like chygrynskiy, hleb etc.

the idea that guardiola acquired a team and had success with it but didn't have much to do with assembling it is nonsense tbph. apart from his role as youth coach at barca, typically around half the starting barca 11 are guardiola buys. he's spent quite heavily as a coach.
