Betting Sponsorship in Football
Betting firm logos shown 3,500 times on TV during games last season.
How much of a problem is it? Quote:

Reckon there's going to be a generation of kids are going to be much more susceptible towards it thanks to gambling type features in video games. Also think it's pretty hypocritical when it's compared to something like Rooney getting a ban for swearing on the pitch against West Ham, because football should be family friendly programming, but "West Ham v Chelsea featured by far the most betting logos, a total of 3,522, or 37 for every minute of the game. The figure was particularly high because of West Ham’s deal with the online bookmaker and casino firm Betway, whose logo is plastered around the club’s home, the London Stadium." |

All seriousness though, and with someone who has a family member who has ruined their life due to gambling, and know plenty of others, it's disgusting. |

I've known a few with serious gambling issues. Part of the issue is how easier it is to bet these days with apps etc. You can bet on pretty much anything at any time the day without leaving your house. A pretty savage addiction as has ruined years of their lives.
Though not convinced advertising re football really had an impact on those in question. |

Gillespie's book is an interesting read.
Thankfully never been my vice, but find the amount of advertising around football and horse racing in particular horrific. TalkSport around big horse racing events in just wall to wall betting ads / promos / guest punters, it is very in your face. |

It's getting way out of hand, my 17 year old told me he was most excited at reaching 18 shortly so that he can have a bet on the match, he really thinks he can make a killing as he's read some %@#$&!s football stats website.
What's the world coming to when a 17 year old is more excited about betting than going to the match and getting a trifle inebriated. |
