Default Ashley Cole on Pea.

Ball out of play, I think.

Although I would argue there is no chance the ball had time to get out of play.

Was a horrible tackle, but in his defence I think it was just a genuine lunge to block the ball and he didn't have much clue what he was doing.

Still shocking when you see it again, but don't think he had anything in mind other than stopping a goal

doesn't matter if it was out of play, the tackle came in while he was attempting the shot and must have put him off. should have been a straight red in any case, studs up and over the ball, disgusting tackle.

I can sort of understand that it may have not been a penalty by suggesting it's out of play, though I'd disagree.. If I see a worse tackle all season, whether intentional or not, I'll be amazed and sad for the person on the end of it. It was a sending off.

Its shocking to watch in Sky tv HD super slow mo.

I'm unsure in that situation a @#%&! like ashley cole has the time to think in his head about causing an injury to chicarito.

It was a last ditch attempt to block the ball, appears horrible in slow mo, but I think it was a last ditch attempt to protect his goal.

Its because he's a snivelling little shit that people will claim it was on purpose.

I wouldnt give him that much.

Absolutely. Disgusting, leg breaker there. It is a red card. I think it's penalty.

I disagree mate, Cole knew exactly what he was doing. In football there at times when you get away with a dangerous tackle and make it look like something else like blocking a shot etc.

Can't agree mate, he's a thick £#%&! but can't see him wilfully trying to give away a pen in that situation.

Deliberately turning his head away whilst going in for it is a tell-tale sign, IMP. 'Irty 'unt.

Possibly, just think he knew he could go through Hernandez and make it look like he was lunging to block the shot.

If you book someone for a tackle where they don't get the ball, it's a foul.

A foul inside the box is a penalty.

If you catch someone, studs up, halfway up their calf, it's a red card.

End of discussion.

my understanding is that once the ref gives the ball as dead he can't go back and give a pen

the linesman clearly saw the incident however ref had already called the ball dead before talking to him. if this is the case then it was shite refereeing anyway

is this right? doesn't matter if the ball has gone out its based on the ref declaring the ball dead?

You can only award a direct free kick if the ball is in play (i think) so the question is where the ball was I can't remember. But could still have a red card.

So, as an example, keeper tips the ball over the bar for a corner, Rooney deliberately clatters into the goalie after the ball has gone and gets booked. No free kick given and we have a corner I assume?
