Just because of the investment the club needs to get it back up to speed and the fact it's currently losing money and they've looking outwards for the investment. They want to take money out, not put it in, and the club needs every penny it makes for the forseeable plus more besides. That's no good to them.

A half decent transfer summer is circa £200m.
Stadium needs renovation/rebuilding £1bn
Debt repayments £20m

That’s just scratching the surface. They’re toast.

exactly, in order for a business to remain profitable, you have to maintain it. They can't maintain it currently

I suppose it would be too big a gamble for them to hold onto see if we could get back to the level we were at 10-15 years ago.

It's going to need consistent investment to do so, and they've already got the club pretty much maxed out, credit wise.

The stadium does not need that much spending on it.

Fix the roof, yes. The rest looks fine to me

With the current level of competition in the premier league there's absolutely no chance United can compete seriously in the medium-long term with the Glazers in charge. When have Manchester United ever been faced with 'we have to sell in order to afford anyone' before these clowns run the place into the ground? Biggest ground, biggest support, biggest brand in the entire league and they've somehow managed to get themselves in a financial mess. Rotten no-good charlatans.

Don’t disagree. The £1b figure is start again and radically re-model - there’s a zillion options before that.

But, the point is right - the club isn’t generating enough to give them a constant dividend whilst huge spending is needed.

One thing is certain, any investment has to come from within the club because the glazers won’t be putting anything in.

It’s the right time for them to sell. They’ve maximised their annual returns and have the opp to exit at a significant profit. The alternative looks more uncertain and harder graft.

Not that you'd know it given some of the stooge posts you see. They planned to keep the purse strings tight last season too.

Plugging some leaks in a corrugated iron roof and knocking on 12k seats, that will be one billion pounds please

As for the lads who want a new stadium so they can sit in the la-z-boy seats and watch the match with a hotdog and a jumbo coke, please just go and watch spurs. Find the thought of a glorified NFL stadium on the banks of the Irwell repugnant.

That price was based on plans and quotes tbf. Included extension of the South Stand, New roof, re-doing the quadrants and I want to say a smaller stadium next door as a temporary home while the the bulk of works were completed and for the women and U23's etc. moving forward.

Too right. I’m yet to get wet. We might moan about getting in but it’s much easier than Wembley. Can we have a poll on a new stadium? Anyone who doesn’t go to at least 50% of home games cant vote as they have no legitimate interest.

A “professional” ??? Didn’t catch who he was but really

The two Newcastle representatives weren’t the brightest, either. Just reacted with pure emotion, until the lad eventually conceded that they might think differently if they were in a position like United, where we would prefer to be able to get back to where we were before the current owners. Shay Given was totally oblivious to the main points being discussed.

Didn’t learn anything we didn’t already know, in that afaik, the 3x main options appear to be:

1) Qatar = undesirable on several fronts, as well as unnecessary
2) Jim = possibly the preferred outcome but still little confidence that he too, would not have the means to get the club back on its feet and let it run itself
3) American owners = no comment reqd

I reckon if we had a new stadium we’d be competing on all four fronts this season.

North Stand holds about 28k seats alone, assuming even parts of the Stretford End and K stay open you're looking at 35k minimum that OT would hold during renovations. How and why would they build temp stadium that presumably holds more than that? It would take years to build such a stadium and would cost more than any revenue lost due to renovation

Yeah, building a temporary stadium to play games in while renovating a permanent stadium doesn't feel like the best strategy going forward.

Because the stadium couldn’t be used for an extended period while the works were ongoing and they need somewhere to play? this was in the plans that people are quoting. Don’t shoot the messenger.
