Sad to see the co-presenter of Countdown getting the blame for United's woes.

Heard that Dave Sexton's boring football was heavily influenced by Bruce Forsyth's assistant off the Generation Game back in the day.

The problem in this context is that Greenwood joined Utd when he was six.

The point being it's hard to do an initial character assessment on a 6 year old. Likewise, the club should also have been monitoring the behaviour and character of those lucky enough to represent it (something I think JR and ETH will ensure takes place, moving forward).

it's not that it is hard to do a character assessment at six, but rather that the club was partially responsible for his character development. they made him the man he is. they can't wash their hands of their responsibility (including to him) for being a bad influence.

If only one of our training and conditioning coaches had thought to tell him when he was younger, this could have all been so very different.

the weak feminine man club aka the rachel riley fan club absolutely rattled at rachel riley being used symbolically as their figurehead

It’s been the case for decades that most youngsters get their sex education from #@&%!os. Sounds like Greenwood definitely did.

What lengths do the club go to?

if we’re holding the club accountable for the men these kids grow up to be, id say they did a fine job with mason who is nothing other than the victim of entrapment at the hands of a young woman with no self-worth, whose only purpose in life has been to go out on the piss and bed footballers.
how we raised jesse lingard on the other hand, now that is something there is absolutely no excuse for

true, but most parents/schools manage to teach responsible behaviour and clear limits and most employers have strict guidelines regarding behaviour. the club has to have people sit young players down and explain that anything like this will (a) be high profile and (b) flush their careers. even #@&%! viewers should know right from wrong.

the arguments about what actually happened and what should be an appropriate response under the circumstances (including subsequent wishes of all parties) don't need repeating. the only point here is that the club has to accept both some responsibility for his character development and that it has various obligations (to victim, employee/son and "society").

just making it someone else's problem is lame.
