Often watching them it is a case of a side which defends primarily and relies on one man to be the main driving force of the attack. Despite the quality of the players at their disposal, it’s often the case that if Ronnie struggles the. Madrid struggle. Which has been borne out this season tbf.

It’s not entirely dissimilar to our approach when the attack is focused on supplying Lukaku.

Yep. Perhaps that pragmatism has helped him in Europe. When you're solid and then have the best goalscorer in Europe, you've got a great chance. But week to week, you're relying on Ronaldo when he's just getting older. Madrid will probably dispense with Zidane before they do Ronaldo, but really moving on from CR7 is probably the next major step.

Zidane is their equivalent of giving Giggs the job. Worked out ok for a while then get worse and worse as it got exposed he's a talented footballer, not a manager.

I think Siders may have been referencing Liverpool and Chelsea rather than Real. Both wins were highly fortunate. Chelsea even more so than Liverpool, that was an incredible run, unconvincing in the group stage, should have lost to Napoli, could have lost to Benfica, charmed life against Barca, and were totally dominated in the final only for Bayern, LVG and Robben to choke time and again through the match.

Wondering if this is bait or not

Big Jupp's Bayern that time. And Chelsea's run was utterly disgusting.

Always felt like we had to be at our very best to win the CL. And even then both times by the absolute skin of our teeth. Much inferior sides have won it comfortable over the years.

No, wouldn't do that to you. Got my Bayern chokes confused, 2010 with Robben cutting in and blazing about 20 shots high and wide was the LVG final.

Yes though, Utd really should have picked up at least 1 more under Fergie, so many good opportunities wasted and then running into perhaps the best club side ever at the very end, kick in the balls.

Chelsea have been like that for a long time though, keep picking up trophies without producing a memorable side, their last 2 titles were forgotten 5 mins after the presentation.

"Worked out ok for a while".

He won as many European Cups as Ferguson in about 1/10th of the time.

Giggsy managing us to back-to-back Champions League wins would probably top the Treble year, ffs.

They need a huge shake up and they'll obviously have the government pile tonnes of cash in to help them. Hopefully, they'll take De Bruyne, Salah and it seems obvious that Hazard is already off there in the summer. Wouldn't surprise me if they won the European Cup again though

Yeah and his management style clearly hasn’t worked either.

2 Champion league wins and a League title....what more do you want... Fergie only got 2 Champion League wins in 26 years....

There was absolutely no sign of this Real meltdown pre-season even without Ronaldo.
Seems to becoming a trend for a team dominating one season to totally underwhelming the next . Lets hope it continues next season

I was thinking that. Zidane has been outstanding since he took over.

Some bizarre comments on this thread.

Just a 7-1 win over relegation placed Deportivo La Coruña today. Though Depor did go ahead early on.
