This "hanging a leg out" to try and catch a keeper/defender in the box needs to be stamped out. Striking an opponent is an automatic red card, I reckon it's time that this was seen as striking an opponent, Gerrard kicked Friedel as Friedel pulled out (knowing what was coming).

Mind, Gerrard has some sort of immunity from being punished for his actions, he went through a phase of dangerous over-the-ball tackles a few years ago and was never sent off for those, either...

we have players who have done it, but it's always replayed 30 times in slo mo to make sure it is emphasized but with gerrard it's all swept aside
