We're playing one of Fergie's mates. He likes to give them a chance.

Given their record away from home this season, it'd be folly to ignore the Pompey game and assume it'll be a formality.

But we now have 4 quality, fit central midfielders. we should never, ever have to pick Edvard Munch's "the Scream" ever again.

Pompey don't travel very well and half of their first team are at the ACN so even Fletchinio should be able to pull us through this one.

Their away record is excellent this season. They've replaced one of their missing midfielders with Diarra, who is decent. It will not be a walk in the park.

Factor in James playing a blinder and BGS returning alongside Distin. I see little reason to make things difficult for ourselves by starting Fletcher given the options available.

"Who shall I play in midfield against the team with a fantastic away record? Hmmmmm. Owen hargreaves? Was great against Spurs in the cup, but then I simply MUST change things. I can't help myself. Scholes? No he needs a rest. Anderson? He's tired since he went round Ronaldo's house. What about Carrick? Just starting to come back to form - I know Fletch will do a job in there."

If Fletcher starts getting games again we will blow our chances of a decent trophy haul. It's that simple.

i wouldnt say hargreaves is a superior footballer to fletcher imo.

hargreaves is better at his job but ability wise there isnt much between them.

hargreaves is a bog standard defensive midfielder. no depth to his game.

carrick ,anderson and scholes are superior players to him. (in my opinion obviously)
