Secondly, even the treble is an extremely rare event - you normally need a bit of luck to do it (we certainly did)

And all the teams that have done it have been "proper" ones. At the end of the day, ciddy are still a bunch of mercenaries with a sprinking of genuinely class players.
No it was a treble. The intercontinental cup counts a trophy won in 99/00 season.

Only Celtic and Bayern have won the quadruple.

I'm sorry, it wasn't meant to be a criticism or anything, they just haven't.

No.

This isn't set in stone but surely the only legitimate quadruples are...

A) The top 3 most important domestic trophies + European Cup

Bayern did this a few years ago and Celtic in 67

orrr

B) The top 2 most important domestic trophies + European Cup + Club World Cup (harder one to get because it means defending the European Cup)

Fair enough. So what was the third domestic trophy Bayern won in addition to the Bundesliga and the Pokal, if not the league cup?

I think Ajax also won some sort of quadruple (or even quintuple?) in 1971/72?

But whatever, it is *extremely* rare. The idea that ciddy are guaranteed, or even likely, to do it in the next few years is risible.

Ajax boycotted it that season because of how thuggish the South American teams had been in the previous few years. They entered in 72/73 and won, but because Cruyff got his ankle broke in it they refused to enter again and up until the 80s only one or two European winners contested it.

As for City winning a quadruple that will never happen but a League-Europe double would be enough disaster.

Like I said before, very soon identifying the best club in the world will be as simple as finding who is best in England. Have people seen the money and managers coming to the Prem from this summer? The great players will follow. If City are at the front of this Premier League renewal, and I think most are expecting them to be... it is almost inevitable they'll win it (CL).

United should see this! Get Mourinho in, let him buy a few established players to kickstart us back to contention and go to war with Guardiola. This is not the time to worry about stupid small shit most of which isn't true! The best counter to Man City is a strong Manchester United, and always will be.

Not necessarily. Lots of players don't like the climate or lifestyle, and some top players will only play in a mega-city.

Or moreover, why have to overcome more than two decent opponents per season when you can play in Spain, France etc, aside from the physicals that a lot don't fancy, eh Angel?

Me too. Not on a football pitch or anything. Actual war.
