I’m pretty sure the players we signed in the summer were his first choice - Antony, Martinez, Malacia etc. The only one you could argue wasn’t is Casemiro because it looks like he’d prioritised De Jong if he had to choose one of the two. Not exactly a bad backup though.
How is he struggling?! He’s doing an incredible job, he’s doing better than any manager post Fergie, at the biggest club in the world. He’s having the time of his life.
