vidic, evra, anderson, nani, hargreaves, carrick, ji-sung or tevez (if signed proper)

close race between carrick, evra, and tevez

If I had to choose one, it'd be carrick

I thought about carrick too - when on form he is a sublime footballer and i would have picked him too but for a bit of inconsistency that i thought crept into his game a bit last year.

Sorry i should have included Dong but he would have won by a landslide and skewed the results

Agree.

Carrick and Tevez are two of my favourite United players ever.Class.

But Vida has stabilised the entire defence (not on his own, but you know what I mean), given added confidence to every £#%&!er around him etc.

Whilst I think Carrick, Tevez etc are brilliant, Vidic has to be my pick. As soon as he settled down it was clear he would be immense, and he compliments Rio. Some of Rio's consistency over the past 2 seasons can be credited to Vidic. Perfect mix, Rio's elegance, and Vidic's 'tough' style defending. But I've noticed Rio is a lot more 'tough' now he's been with Vidic for a while. He challenges for headers a lot more and generally takes no shit.

I fancy Vidic to chip in with a few goals this season.

My 2nd choice would be Evra.

Absolutely.

His partnership with Rio has brought a stability and solidity to our defence that we haven't seen since the days of Dolly & Daisey.

It's that defensive rock that has allowed our front 6 to play such attcking football.

Thumbs up

I'd have to go with Vidic, we won our double last year off the back of what I'm fairly sure is statistically the best defensive record ever at United. That is in large part down to the central defensive partnership forged between him and Rio. What is clear from this thread is that since his aborted retirement and the klebbo, D-D, Bellion mess associated with it Fergie has been outstanding in the transfer market.

Vidic for me too - for the reasons essentially expressed above. Forming foundation with Rio, tackling folk etc etc

Carrick next

It makes you wonder just what the hell he was playing at dosen't it

Maybe he had a mental breakdown and no one noticed.

Nah, i think when he announced his retirement he basically took his eye off the ball and stopped forward planning. when he then changed his mind he had an aging squad that desperately needed some fresh faces and he panic bought. Just my opinion.

I s'pose it was difficult for Fergie at the time as he seemed to think he was old and past it and should step down, then changed his mind. Great to see him back to his best anyway and as I said, his signings since have been, in the main, outstanding.
