Default Pogba: We need a world class performance from him tonight

On the biggest stage he should be the one standing out tonight.

Well, Iain Dowie is glowing in his praise for him.

"I do think he should hang his head in shame, like some of the others. You don't just turn up and score eight goals in nine games."

PSG man marked him out of the game knowing that is the easiest way to stop Utd playing. Putting such focus on one player should open space for others to do something but we don't have the playmaking quality in the team outside of Pogba. That was probably the thinking with the Mata sub, get someone on who could find a pass, show some composure.

Red card completely unecessary.

I don't think he is here in a years time.

Never trust a Raiola player.

Mata was neat and tidy when he came on and showed some much needed composure, but it did feel like Pogba needed more help out there.

As you say, others should step up.

They didn't. And it's a shame.

Who knows, perhaps we needed this (sort of. Maybe). If we are simply riding a confidence wave and not much more, we'll soon find out.

Big reaction needed and plenty of games to do it in.

Disappointing to be it mildly but Tuchel did his homework and realized Pogba is the only player in our squad who has any creativity
Stop the ball getting to him in space and you’ve taken away most of our attack as Herrera and Matic offer nothing going forward

Matic and Herrera actually tried tonight, Pogba went missing, again...

All well and good doing it against Fulham and Cardiff, but if he wants to be known as world class needs to do it at this level on a consistent basis. Same goes for Martial.

This. Marquinhos and Verratti let Matic and Herrera have the ball but didn’t let Pogba out of their sight.

Hence..

It’s easy to be confused into thinking Matic and Herrera weren’t poor and Pogba was.

I thought Matic was ok. Decent on the ball, but Herrera was very poor.

But he's limited. We know this.

Pogba was heavily marked... but he should still do better. He has to be able to deal with different approaches. And he ultimately lost his cool.

We'll hear it a lot, but it was a reality check.

Our limited players looked exactly that and our better players didnt do enough.

I wouldn't be overly critical of Pogba tonight. I have been in the past when his focus and application has been questionable but I think it was mostly a tactical neutralization on Tuchel's part.

You see the failure of the Fred transfer in a game like that, we really needed someone with energy and a touch of quality and penetration in that midfield area. Matic started well to be fair but as a deep 2 he and Herrera are among the most limited midfield pairs in these knock out rounds.

Matic was fine for Matic but everything was slow and sideways from him

Didn’t play one good between the lines forward ball into our attackers all night
He’s not good enough
