Default team vs bursaspor

sir alex ferguson's 2000th game as a manager

let's hope the lads put on the kind of show he deserves.

Quote:
This evening, Sir Alex Ferguson arrives at another milestone in his remarkable career: his 2,000th match as a professional football manager.

After digging through the archives, we discovered United's Champions League encounter with Bursaspor brings the tally of his Reds tenure to 1,345; add that to 459 as Aberdeen boss, 169 games with St Mirren, 17 at first club East Stirlingshire and 10 with the Scotland national team and Sir Alex's total hits 2,000.

When informed of the stat on MUTV, Sir Alex replied: "Really? Two thousand? It's amazing, that. Two thousand games... dearie me. I feel old now!"

This isn't the first time Sir Alex has reached a landmark on a Champions League night at Old Trafford. Lyon were the visitors on 23 November 2004 for his 1,000th match at United.

Wayne Rooney will miss United’s match against Bursaspor on Wednesday night after being stretchered off in training with an ankle injury on Tuesday morning.

The full extent of the injury is not yet known but Rooney will join Ryan Giggs (hamstring), Jonny Evans (hip) and Michael owen (hamstring) on the sidelines for the Turkish team’s visit. At a press conference held at Old Trafford on Tuesday afternoon, Sir Alex told journalists: "Jonny got a hip injury in training over the last week. He’s out.

"Michael [Owen] started training this week. He won’t be involved on Wednesday – I think it’s only fair to him that he should have 10 days’ training before he goes back into competitive games."

The boss confirmed those absences would mean opportunities for some of the younger players at the club.

"There’ll be some changes tomorrow," he said. "That’s not to say we’re taking Bursaspor lightly, though. We hope the changes we make are ones that are easy to carry, in terms of positions where we feel we can cope.

"In the past, these double-headers in the Champions League have always been important and the result at Valencia puts us in a very good position. We’d like to win these two games against Bursaspor, starting with tomorrow."
