Precisely the point I've always made.

They want a 'no value' DOF. Which will be career suicide for whomever takes the role on.

That lad we nabbed from Italy soon £#%&!ed off. To Russia no less!

People tend only to remember the big spending seasons. But Ed and co plan transfer budgets over many seasons.

Feast and famine.

We're averaging 90m net spend a season since Freg. If you had a DOF who knew in advance that he had that precise sum to spend, then it could work.

But no. We have to keep up the pretence that we can break the bank whenever we choose! Facebook fans love it. Fits the journo's narrative of 'big bad United'.

Mou was left in the dark last summer. We all saw it coming.

Actually no, we had two consecutive bumper spends just previous to last summer.

It all relates to top 4. The feasts are when they miss out and need to get back in so sponsorship clauses don’t kick in. The famine is when they feel top 4 is assured in the coming season, such as last summer after finishing second. Zero footballing ambition. It’s all financial. The only footballing ambition rests within becoming more efficient with what they do spend on transfers, and getting a larger return for the investment.

A woodward stooge. Probably another banker from down the club’s pecking order. I’d be amazed if it’s a decision in the best footballing interests of the club. It will be in the interests of woodward and finance.

City fan then. Run by liverpoool and city fans, and we wonder why we’re shit.

I'd like to see David Jason of only Fools and Horses fame, but only because Ronnie Corbett is dead.
