He doesn't take the best player in each position in the world, or that is available. He takes what he needs to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts.

Not really. That front line today was Carrick, Fletcher, Park, Valencia, Owen/Rooney, Berbatov.

I would say only Rooney would get in Chelsea's front 6. Maybe Fletcher as a hard sell. And none of them compare to the front 6 of 99 or 94.

However, that 6 as a whole is far greater than the sum of its parts.

Hardly 'incredible innit' or

Chelsea midfield yesterday was lampard, cole, mikel and ballack.

I personally wouldn't take any of them for Fletcher, though lampard's stats show how he's the bestest English midfielder ever, I just can't stand the @#%&!.

Remember the class he took his red card with against Arsenal and then look again at the above list of Chelsea midfielders.

I'll leave the Berbatov>anelka, Valencia>all for someone else.

carrick and fletcher > mikel and %@#$&! by a long way. and malouda or valencia? tough one

but that's not the point. you didn't say 'would get into chelsea's side'. you said 'average players', which is simply idiotic.

I'm not sure it is actually.

I think Ferie works better with teams who aren't full of 'best in position'/'walk into Chelsea' type players. We usually have one or two world-class but have never had a team who apart are all the best in their respective positions.

He works best with squads like ours at the moment. It's like this idea of 'squad depth' when commentators say 'well, thing is with Manchester United is they always have class waiting in the sidelines'. I'm not sure we do, although I'm not sure it matters.

Agreed

This Chelsea argument, how many of their players would get into our team?

Cech - No, he's made a lot more mistakes than VDS over the past couple of seasons. And shits his pants and flaps anytime a cross come in.
Ashley Cole - No.Evra > Cole
Terry - Rio > Terry
Carvalho - Maybe ahead of Vidic, maybe not.Debatable.Yesterday, Vidic made a horrendous error but was then superb.Seems that's how he's been for a while.
Ivanovic - No.Brown at RB, Rafa at RB > Ivanovic imo.
Ballack - No.Carrick > Ballack, by a good distance.
Lampard - I honestly wouldn't leave Fletcher out for him.Maybe some would though.
Malouda - No.Valencia > Malouda
Mikel - No. Any of our midfield, maybe even Gibbo > Mikel
Joe Cole (Always played on the left, when he gets a game) No. Giggs/Nani > Cole.

Drogba - Yes. I'm sure most would have him and Wazza up front.
Anelka - Not scored in a while, wouldn't swap him for Berbs anyway, personally.

Put us up, man to man, against Liverpool and Arsenal too and we'd have more in the starting 11.No danger.

If he continues to defend like he did in the first 25 minutes, he wont be playing many more.

True, I prefer to think of him defending as he did for the last 65 though
