Love to be in the interview room when he goes for his next job.

‘Yeah, managed to negotiate the shit out of Ajax, Chelsea, Leicester, all of them’

‘Tried not to sell too many, loans where we subsidise the salary is the true key’

‘Wages? Best to give them whatever they want, that way they’ll never want to leave’

And a bunch of ITK journos were saying that because the likes of Ashworth and Wilcox were on gardening leave and not appointed yet that INEOS would leave the gobshite who sanctioned the £85 million Antony transfer to handle our transfer business this summer

Another of the job’s for the boys flushed down the toilet by INEOS
Doing good work so far

Bit intolerant of use of "football director" rather than DoF

Thought that - as savage as corporate can be.

Consequently, while United evaluated a number of external candidates, they regarded Murtough as the best option for the 'Football Director' role because of his already extensive knowledge of the club and his numerous success stories over the past eight years and he was considered to be a better option than the external candidates who were deemed inappropriate as they were only interested in recruitment.

He was brought to United by David Moyes in 2013, having previously worked for the Premier League. Regularly described as a 'fixer', Murtough was charged with improving the academy. He excelled in that regard, playing a pivotal role in a change of policy which saw United adopt a more expansive, global approach to player recruitment, resulting in the arrival of the likes of Hannibal Mejbri and Alvaro Fernandez.

so long, fixer

He was central to the arrival of Erik ten Hag as manager in 2022, heavily involved in squad building and has been constructing a team around him that includes the likes of deputy football director Andy O’Boyle, director of football operations David Harrison and director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves.
