What’s happened to Foakes? He looked a much better keeper, and more likely to score runs than most of the top 6 or 7 batsmen they’ve tried recently.

Been advocating Foakes for ages, for all the good Bairstow and Buttler can do with the bat they aren't anywhere near him with the gloves.

Anyway. Dropping Leach so we've no real spin option? Replacing him with Woakes who averages nearly 60 with the ball outside England? Not even bothering staying up to watch it this time.

Sick of Root... drops Leach to stop him establishing himself in side so he can get his mate, Moeen Ali back in ASAP.

Wouldn't be surprised to see NZ hit 500+ again. More than half their team are averaging over 50 in 2019 ffs

Bit of energy in the first hour but it's all gone now. Archer going slow, doing nothing, Root's bowled him into the ground. Now resorting to trying to get Sam "60mph" Curran to bowl bouncers. Dry pitch going to get dryer, GOOD THING WE DROPPED LEACH, EH?

That's it. My love affair with Root is over, he's got to forego the captaincy. Two more tours this winter, it can't carry on like this

Such a good batsman - it’s been clear for a while that the captaincy is messing with his form, and he’s not a good enough captain to justify the loss of runs. Happened to a lesser degree iirc with Vaughan, but he was a good captain, and the rest of the batting lineup wasn’t as flimsy.

No idea who’d take over though.

Aussies declared before on day two. Had they batted out the day Warner may have broke Lara's record since Pakistan finished the day 96-6. Their spinner Yasir Shah of all people scored a century to get them to 300. Still have to follow on and currently 39-3.

Root rising to the occasion. Gives England a fighting chance. These two games have been dominated by the strokemakers rather than the nurdlers which has been nice to see. Ross Taylor is one of my most favorite players in the last decade...hugely underrated.

Think Root was stung by the criticism on here.

No chance it'll finish now.

Not sure we've learnt much from these two matches, since they're effectively warm-ups for the upcoming WTC serieses (serii?). Burns is a settled opener, Sibley's not shone but his FC performances (and lack of any other options) have got to mean he's got the other spot. Denly's a decent option that lets Root go back to 4. Archer's not going to do anthing if he's overused, need Wood back as soon as possible. Think we've got to stick with Leach as main spin option.
