We've conceded fewer goals in 21 games than we did last year, we've conceded the fewest goals through defensive errors in the League, it isn't the £#%&!ing defence.

We aren't scoring enough that's the top and bottom of it. we scored more under Moyes, and given that we've added Di Maria, Radamel £#%&!ing Falcao and an alleged coaching genius that isn't £#%&!ing nearly good enough.

Jones and Smalling were OK Today, they allowed one chance and Southampton took it, we still had the other 89 minutes and 59 seconds to score one of our own. They were plenty good enough to win titles in what was a better league 2 years ago.

We are conceding and scoring less because of the system . It's why we have drawn so many games .

Smalling has been decent since the City game, he certainly didn't lose his man for Stoke's goal or gave away a sloppy penalty at Newcastle.

Need I remind you of Evans performance at MK Dons? He's fine.
This is what used to happen in the debate about our wide men. Any individual being more or less shit than any of the others on specific days, or in general, is irrelevant. None of them are good enough for what we should be aspiring to. As any self respecting Dothraki might say, "it is known".

.
Have to take Dave's form into account - we got overrun at times by the likes of Stoke and Everton at home ffs, could easily have conceded another half-dozen and lost a couple more games.

How much of that is because we offer zero threat going forward? Teams were afraid to attack us under Fergie because we'd be at the other end of the pitch in 15-20 seconds, under van Gaal they can throw the sink at us because even if it falters they'll have time to set up defensively before we even get to the halfway line.

We're not only dull too watch we're so £#%&!ing slow and it's not just pace of the players the passing and interplay is pedestrian, that's the one thing that Herrera bringsc he does at least try to play quick one two's and balls around the corner.

No defender will look good in this team the way it's playing at the moment, but it's easier for our fans to get on Smallings back every week than it is to recognise that. Smalling and Jones aren't shit players.

smalling has been our best defender this season. not saying much. picking him out of that performance is just ridiculous. a game at home where we don't have a shot on target and you want to blame smalling? :shakehead:

Thing is we've got no ball playing defenders. Southampton got straight onto Carrick / Fatty so Jones and Smalling (who are mid table cloggers at best) couldn't do much with it.

It's a disgrace we've still got those @#%&!s in the side. Once we get two better centre halves our play can improve from the back. Still need some pace and penetration though... Tony V needs £#%&!ing off, Wayne needs going up top and somebody with a bit of pace and vision needs sticking in the middle IMHO.

Either would be well able IF they were partnered with a worldy. To lose Rio and Vidic and not get a like for like replacement for either was always going to create problems.

Took Daley Blind to show what a real (not) defender can do.
Awful displays from Jones, Smalling and hoof it Blacket
Also took Blind to show LVg that Shaw is not a wing back.

He's improving. Was impressed with how assertive he was from the start, on and off the ball. A world away from his typically timid displays in the opening months of the season. They continue to take way too much flack, but the senior defenders are getting better.

Apart from Evans obvs.

It seems the sages are right on here about Shaw; that he's not suited to playing wing back. i thought he'd have the equipment for it, given he was seen as an attacking full back but it would appear not.

If we're going to continue with three at the the back is it worth trying him at the left side of the three? He's tall enough and has pace. Something like Shaw-Rojo-Smalling/jones?

Smalling is a long way from our worst problem at the moment, tbh.
