Yep. There seems to be a failure from his supporters to acknowledge that his game has rapidly declined from last season.

He can get it back, but it’s where he is right now.

If he was playing well and scoring goals, he’d be in the United team and all would be well.

Can he?

Players decline with age - they don't seem to 'get it back' approaching 40.

Not saying he’ll suddenly be a world beater again, but I think he’s still got a better level than what we’re seeing right now. He’s frustrated and low on confidence, as well as just his powers fading.

No matter how fit you are, eventually your brain just isn't able to talk to your legs as quickly as they once did.
