In answer to the original question, my opinion is very similar to the Van Persie signing, in that he's obviously a superb player, but I would prefer it if we were addressing other areas of the squad, especially with the kind of money that is being talked about. £37m+ could get us pretty much any of the world-class/top-class central midfielders we're being linked with.
I also have reservations about how Moyes would use Mata. If he's going to use him as a foil to work with Kagawa and Januzaj to bring about a much more attractive, incisive style of intricate, creative football then it's all good, but is he really going to do that? Anther thing, (and I know it's quite sad), but I'm pretty underwhelmed when we're linked with players from domestic rivals. I'd much rather we went out and got some enigmatic talent from abroad who is completely new to English football. In summary, I'd prefer a Vidal or a Gundogan to signing Mata, but obviously I'd take it if he signed, as he's a fantastic player who would link brilliantly with our attackers. |
