They play rule Britannia which is an excellent way of reminding the multi racial team of England’s leading role in the slave trade

They were in full swing up until Perisic scored. If nothing else, at least the Croatian comeback shut those £#%&!ing @#%&!s up.

Does anybody actually appreciate what they’re doing? Even when there’s a new song doing the rounds like that Earth Wind & Fire one, the £#%&!ers learn a tone deaf version of it and proceed to spoilt it. They’re certainly no better than 50,000 South Africans with vuvuzelas

Why the £#%&! do England fans sing the national anthem half a dozen times every game? And then follow it up by applauding themselves.

I'm sure some have convinced themselves it is "ironic" or something

Or indeed reminding the world that Britain, being the first and only developed nation at that time to outlaw the slave trade, established (at considerable expense) the Royal Navy West Africa Preventative Squadron in order to suppress the slave trade still carried on by nearly every other developed nation at the time.

It might also remind them that African enslavement of other Africans was a cultural norm for hundreds of years prior to the European nations, and continued in some nations (Ethiopia for example) up to the 20th century, and indeed that the slaves bought by the europena nations were purchased in slave markets run by Africans that existed long before any european set foot in africa.

It probably wouldnt bring to mind the Arabs who enslaved so many europeans that the peoples of southern eastern europe became known as ‘Slavs’. Nor of the Arab enslavement of enormous numbers of africans up to as late as the early 1900s.

It might remind them that the Royal Navy often ferried freed african slaves to the colony of Sierra Leone to where many Africans fleed to escape their fellow Africans who continued to enslave their brothers and sell them to other European nations despite Britain’s valiant efforts to end this effrontery to humanity.

It would certainly remind them that they are lucky enough to live in one of the most tolerant and least racist societies that has ever existed.
