How can he be dropped when he has a contract from the club that states he must play when he's fit?

for the Everton game....definitely, his 'performances' at Goodison for the last few years have been utter shite, so have ours obviously, but he is always £#%&! against them

And beyond that? Phase him out?

It's all irrelevant anyway because LVG won't drop him. I'll be ducking astonished if he does.

Thought it said indefinitely.

He needs benching until he can get some form back, he's been very poor.

i don't think anyone here could argue that rooney's form hasn't been atrocious for most of the season so far, but i thought he picked up in the second halfs against sunderland and arsenal - albeit slightly - and that's probably more encouraging than anything else he's managed lately.

put it this way: drop him now and we'll either end up with an almighty sulk, an even worse loss of form when we try and phase him back in, or both.

as i've said before, much of rooney's career has been about these highs and lows. as he gets older the lows will invariably get longer and more pronounced, and the good days will fall away. but the situation is the same as it's always been: to gain fitness and form, he has to play. unless he adapts his game radically, there is little benefit in managing his appearances in the manner of a giggs or scholes. in which case, it seems the only alternative is to cash in on whatever value he has left.

the choice isn't play him or bench him, it's play him or sell him imo.
